This weekend thousands of Rugby fans are expected to flock to Moree, New South Wales to witness some of the games’ biggest names take on local legends at Weebolla Oval.

Both the Classic Wallabies and Classic Wallaroos will square up against local teams who will have months of pre-season training under their belts. The Classics will open the gates to the public at 12:00pm and run free junior clinics for hundreds of kids aged 8 to 13.

The Classic Wallaroos will then take centre stage squaring off against the Central North Womens side in a game of Rugby 10s. The squad will feature a number of former Wallaroos including Selena WorsleyVanessa Bradley and Pearl Palaialii, with the team also hosting some young aspiring mentee players.

Team captain Selena Worsley is relishing the chance to take to the field once more in the green and gold. “Although myself and the girls are ‘retired’, we didn’t need any excuse to come out to a great rugby town like Moree and play,” said Worsley. “We’ve heard the Central North girls are a strong team, and we’re very excited to play a small part in showcasing to the strength of women’s country footy.”

Soon after a star-studded line up of former Wallabies including Mat Rogers, Lote Tuqiri, Radike Samo and Justin Harrison and will take on the Central North Barbarians.

Classic Wallabies General Manager Justin Harrison has indicated that the Classic Wallabies are taking the opposition seriously. “Classic Wallabies matches are always a lot of fun, but those competitive instincts always tend to come back pretty hard, no matter how long you’ve been out of the game, “We’re hearing the Central North Boys want to take it to us.  It has always been widely recognised as a very strong rugby region, so we’re expecting a good show from them,”

In a shock late selection, Moree local Brian Mansfield, who last played for the Wallabies in 1975, will pull on the boots one last time in front of his adoring home-town crowd.

After the on-field action wraps up, the off-field entertainment kicks off with live music and fundraising auctions to raise funds for local clubs.
