Classics head to Fiji for a good cause
After spending the week in Fiji helping local school students and communities, the Classic Wallabies lined up against the Fiji Legends on Saturday for an Exhibition Match at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park.
The match was a curtain raiser for the National Rugby Championship match between the Fijian Drua and Melbourne Rising. In a friendly and entertaining contest the Classics went down 55-14 to a dominant Fijian side putting on a show for the home crowd.
Tries from William Ryder, Lemeki Duidomo, Neumi Nanuku & Sireli Naqulevuki helped the Legends storm to victory, with the Classics two tries courtesy of Sam Cordingly & Lote Tuquiri.
Despite the loss, the Classics were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Fiji and help raise funds for the Fiji National Kidney Research & Treatment Centre.
A gala dinner held at the Shangri-La Resort on Thursday evening raising over $10,000 to support ongoing dialysis treatment for children in Fiji.
Earlier on Thursday, members of the touring party paid a visit to the staff and patients of Sigatoka Hospital.
Earlier in the week, the Classic’s held a number of coaching clinics at local schools and villages including Cuvu College in Sigatoka where locals were invited to receive free heath screenings thanks to the Fiji National Kidney Research & Treatment Centre.
The full touring squad took part in the day running skills drills, playing games and distributing Classic Wallabies kit to over 250 kids.
